Method
- Combine granulated sugar and water in a microwave-safe bowl or glass measuring cup. Microwave on high for 45 seconds and stir until sugar is dissolved and liquid is clear. Set aside to cool.
- Muddle together freshly squeezed lemon juice and fresh basil leaves, using a muddler or the base of a wooden spoon to crush the leaves and infuse the juice with basil flavor.
- Add cold water and sugar syrup to taste. Pour over ice and enjoy.
Notes
- Storage: Store any leftover lemonade in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for up to three days, but it’s best enjoyed fresh.
- Freezing: You can freeze the lemonade in ice cube trays to make refreshing lemonade ice cubes for later use!
- Pairing: This lemonade pairs beautifully with summer salads, grilled vegetables, or light seafood dishes.
- Garnishing: Add a lemon wheel or fresh basil sprig to each glass for an extra touch of elegance.
- Sweetening options: Feel free to swap out sugar for honey or agave syrup for a different sweetness profile!
