Ingredients

  • 12 oz Frozen Cranberries
  • 1 cup White Sugar
  • 1 cup Orange Juice

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Frying Pan
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Add a bag of fresh cranberries, white sugar, and orange juice in a large sauce pan and whisk together.
  2. Heat the cranberry mixture over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. After about five minutes on the stove, you’ll notice the cranberries begin to pop and make noise.
  4. Once you see a gentle boil, reduce the heat to medium-low.
  5. Continue to cook and stir for an additional five to seven minutes, or until most cranberries have burst open.
  6. After ten to fifteen minutes, remove the cranberry sauce from heat and let it stand off heat.
  7. Spoon the sauce into a serving dish, where cranberries can be served hot or completely cooled.

Notes

  • Cinnamon: A dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, or apple pie spice is a great way to give it some fall flavor.
  • Maple Syrup or Honey: Cut some of the sugar in the recipe and substitute with honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar. This also helps with some of the tartness in the berry.
  • Changing the Juice: Orange juice and cranberry go really well together, but grape, cran-grape, and blackberry juices are just as good in homemade cranberry sauce.
  • Zest: Add a bit of orange zest on the top of the bowl for some extra color and fanciness.
