Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil as needed for frying
  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled, deveined, and patted dry
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish
  • Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce for serving

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Chef's Knife
  • Peeler
  • Frying Pan

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix these dry ingredients well to create an even coating for your shrimp.
  2. In another shallow bowl, place the beaten eggs. Beating them well will ensure a smooth coating on your shrimp.
  3. In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs. This will give your shrimp that extra crunch.
  4. Carefully dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, ensuring it is well coated. The flour will help the egg stick better to the shrimp.
  5. Then, dip the floured shrimp into the eggs, allowing any excess to drip off before proceeding to the next step.
  6. Finally, coat each shrimp with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they adhere well. Set the breaded shrimp aside on a plate.
  7. In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F. Test the temperature by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and browns quickly, it is ready.
  8. Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2 to 3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  9. Once cooked, drain the fried shrimp on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  10. Serve your Fried Shrimp hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley and your choice of tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. Enjoy!
