Method
- Start by taking a large mixing bowl and combining the lean ground turkey, grated carrot, grated zucchini, and minced garlic. Mix everything together gently until just combined, ensuring not to overwork the meat. You want to keep the mixture light and fluffy.
- Add in the black pepper and kosher salt to taste. This is where you can adjust the seasoning to your preference, so don’t be afraid to taste as you go!
- Shape the mixture into six equal patties, making sure they are not too thick. Aim for about one inch in thickness to ensure even cooking. Place the patties on a plate and set them aside for a few minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat your grill, griddle, or skillet over medium heat. You want it hot enough to create a nice sear on the burgers without burning them.
- Once the grill is ready, gently place the patties on it. Cook the burgers for about twelve minutes, flipping halfway through. Look for a nice golden-brown color on the outside and ensure there’s no pink left in the center.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the bread. Brush one side of each slice of whole-grain artisan bread with olive oil. You can broil them in the oven, place them on a griddle, or heat them in a skillet until golden and crispy. This step adds an extra layer of flavor to your burgers.
- Once the burgers are cooked through and the bread is toasted, it’s time to assemble. Take a slice of the toasted bread, add a patty, and layer on a romaine heart lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato. You can add your favorite condiments and toppings here!
- Repeat the process for the remaining burgers. Once assembled, serve immediately while they’re hot and juicy.
- Enjoy your homemade Grilled Turkey Veggie Burgers with a side of your choice, and don’t forget to share with friends and family!
Notes
To ensure your burgers are perfect every time, remember to taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning as needed. It’s also a great idea to let your patties rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain more juices.
