Ingredients
  

  • ½ lb Breakfast sausage
  • ½ Cup All-purpose flour
  • ½ gallon Whole milk
  • Salt and pepper

Method
 

  1. Start by crumbling and browning the breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Pour off all but one tablespoon of the fat.
  3. Add the flour to the skillet, mixing it around to coat the sausage.
  4. Turn the heat back on to medium-high and stir, cooking for two minutes.
  5. Once two minutes pass, add the milk and stir continuously.
  6. When small bubbles form at the edge, reduce heat to medium-low.
  7. Continue stirring until desired thickness is reached.
  8. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
  9. Let it sit for five minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Tip 1: You may substitute 2% or skim milk for the whole milk, but the recipe will not taste near as good.
  • Tip 2: This does make a large quantity and you CAN freeze or refrigerate the gravy.
  • Tip 3: When reheating, reheat slowly and use a little milk to thin the gravy as it will have thickened when cooled.
  • Tip 4: Season this recipe with salt and pepper according to your own tastes.
  • Tip 5: Serve this gravy over buttermilk biscuits, toast, or breakfast potatoes!
