Ingredients

  • 6 cups Golden Delicious apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 6 cups Pears peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup Dried cherries
  • 1 teaspoon Grated orange peel
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3 teaspoons Ground cinnamon divided
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 cup Uncooked oats quick or regular
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dried ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup Butter softened

Equipment

  • Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 7-quart slow cooker

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the apples, pears, dried cherries, and orange peel. Add in the sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, mixing everything gently to evenly coat the fruits.
  2. In another large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.
  3. Next, cut in the butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Take your greased slow cooker and pour the fruit mixture evenly at the bottom. Spread the flour mixture over the fruit, patting it down slightly.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
  6. Once cooked, the top should be golden and slightly crisp. Carefully remove the lid and let it cool for a few minutes.
  7. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
  8. Finally, enjoy the compliments that come your way!
